Ruffner Now in the Shadow of Bavaro

This week the most notable progress has been on the cinder block walls, which have now reached the third floor and completely block the view of Ruffner from Emmet Street. Work also continues on the roof trusses, which now completely span the top of the building. Work has also continued on some of the architectural features like the columns on the front and sides of the building.

Walls Keep Getting Higher

REMINDER, the electrical power will be turned off in Ruffner Hall from 6:00am Saturday, June 27th through 5:00pm Sunday, June 28th to connect the new emergency generator. Please plan your activities accordingly. Progress continues this week on the outside cinder block walls, which are now to the middle of the second floor all the way around the building. Work also continues on the inside partitions and on installing the roof trusses, which appear to be about half way done!

Bavaro Hall 40% Complete

As of today, Bavaro Hall is 40% complete. Work continues on the masonry backup walls with work now starting on the second floor level. Work also continues on installing the roof trusses on the south end of the building and on the interior framing. This week work will begin on installing the emergency generator at the south end of Ruffner Hall, please see the previous post for more information on how this will impact the R2 lot.

Temporary Closure of R-2 Lot Parking Spaces & Sidewalk

Installation of the new emergency generator at Ruffner/Bavaro Hall will begin this week. The installation of new utility lines and connections will require demolition of pavement within the R-2 parking lot. This work will require temporary relocation of several unmarked parking spaces, three assigned visitor parking spaces and one handicapped parking space between June 15, 2009 and August 10, 2009
This work will also require demolition of a portion of the concrete sidewalk connecting these parking spaces to the southeast building entrance of Ruffner Hall. The work will result in temporary closure of the sidewalk for approximately one week occurring at some point
between June 29, 2009 and August 10, 2009.

Cranes Over Bavaro Hall

A second crane was moved on-site over the weekend to begin work on the roof. If you look carefully, you can see that they have started doing the final brick work on the chimneys. Work on the external cinder block walls continues with the basement level approaching completion. You can also now clearly see the internal wall partitions on the first floor. Finally, work has begun at the southern end of the building installing the roof trusses.

In spite of all the rain this week, work continues on construction of the outside walls, plumbing rough-ins, and fireproofing. Work is nearing completion on the two chimneys and if you look closely, you can also see that they have begun to build some of the interior wall partitions.

Bavaro Update

This week in spite of the almost constant rain construction continues. Progress can be seen on the construction of the exterior walls. Work continues on the arches on the third floor. The chimneys are taking shape and now are clearly visible. Behind the scenes work continues in the basement on plumbing, installation of the sprinklers, and fireproofing.

Construction as Usual

Following graduation, work continues on the infrastructure in the basement. You can now see the beginning of the outside walls as the masonry work begins. Work also continues on the two chimney stacks and on framing the arches on the 3rd floor.

Bavaro Hall Is 1/3 Complete

The latest status report on Bavaro Hall indicates that it is now 37% complete. This week masonry work began around the base of the building and on the two chimney stacks on the third floor. Work also continued on framing the arches. Later this week construction will start on installing scaffolding around the building.
