What I Need To Do |
| |
Your U.Va.
computing ID: |
Everyone who studies or works at the University of Virginia is assigned a three to six character ID (e.g., rty, wb7z, nvt8u). This ID is your main way of identifying yourself at the University and you must have it before you can begin using e-mail or gain access to network resources, such as printers and file storage areas. [top] |
- Complete paperwork you receive either after accepting a position with U.Va. or after your orientation and this will start the process. If you are unsure whether your ID has been created, check with the front desk folks in the Curry Dean's office.

| E-Mail Account: |
Your computing ID is your official U.Va. e-mail account name. Your computing ID in front of "@virginia.edu" becomes your default University e-mail address, however, you can create any number of alternative ("aliases") that 'point' to your official e-mail account address. [top] |

| Home Directory: |
Everyone who studies or works at the University of Virginia receives file storage space on University servers. This space is referred to as one's Home Directory and can be accessed from anywhere that one has access to the Internet. [top] |

| ESERVICES Account: |
If you are a faculty member you will need an ESERVICES account so you can log into classroom computers. ESERVICE accounts are also required of anyone wishing to use any public computers on Grounds (e.g., library computers, public labs, etc.). It is generally a good idea for everyone to have an ESERVICES account. [top] |

| Curry School Network: |
The Curry School has several servers located in Carruthers Hall which are maintained by ITC. These servers host the school's web site and other applications developed to support the mission of the School. However, the School also maintains several on-site servers which are maintained by ETO. These Ruffner-based servers are used to support printer sharing throughout the Curry network and also provide storage space for some Curry-supported programs. [top] |
- Submit a work order to ETO by sending an e-mail to edtech-support@virginia.edu requesting access to the Curry network. You will then be contacted because this requires that you come to the ETO office (Ruffner 204) to log into the server using your computing ID and password.
